14 or Below,     BLISSFULLY IGNORANT.  This dog is just happy being a dog... smelling the flowers walking with his family.. Life is GREAT for this dog.  There is no better dog for a cuddle and a movie or a book.  This dog will respond to a soft voice and a gentle touch.  Any dog can learn to sit!

15 - 18               SOMEWHAT OBTUSE.  This dog takes a few more times to pick things up, but keep trying.  Your best bet is training with food treats.  This dog will follow you to the end of the earth.  This dog depends upon you for protection and guidance so be sure to give lots of hugs.  Just as the blissful dog, never train this dog with anything but a loving hand.

19 - 23               OCCASIONALLY CLEVER.  This dog is the master of surprise.  Just when you think it is safe to leave him or her... SURPRISE! Your locked cupboard has been compromised and your desert gone.  This clever learner will respond well in obedience training when asked in a calm positive consistent voice.

24 - 27               AVERAGE.  In mathematics average means the intermediate level, in sports its the total scored divided by total games, and in law... average means incurrence of damage or loss of a ship or cargo at sea.  There is nothing average about the word average.  This dog will show you!  With positive reinforcement training this dog will master hundreds of tricks.

28 - 31               BRIGHTER THAN AVERAGE.  This dog is the perfect candidate for a partner of adventure.  You will be able to teach this dog obedience and tricks easily, and this adventurer will be adoringly waiting by the door for you to return home.  This dog will not forget... so, to not make a mistake use a gentle hand in asking this Fido to sing Happy Birthday.

32 - 37               VERY SMART.  Characterized by sharp quick thought; bright this dog will seem amusingly clever.  As well as a witty, lively conversationalist. Bright dogs equal fun tricks and wonderful companions for life.  In training this dog, and all canines using the gentle approach will take you much further and prevent unwanted responses to situations.

38 - 41               EXTREMELY SMART.  Take this dog to the Circus or your local talent show.  The two of you will delight an audience in your well perfected fashionable renditions of broadway musicals. Always remember like the others, this canine will thrive if you train with kindness.  Just because you have to be firm does not mean you have to be mean.

42 or Above,   CANINE GENIUS.  Your dog really is a can do doggie.  This dog also must live with a firm yet loving approach to training.  His high intelligence will allow you to teach him to do about anything.  See you both on PetStar!

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN AND LET US KNOW HOW IT GOES!  FOR ANY QUESTION ON TRAING, PLEASE CONTACT JAIME ELLSWORTH THROUGH OUR SHELTER OFFICE.

'FREE' GOOD DEED -

Animal Rescue

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple...The Animal Rescue Site has asked for help in clicking daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.  It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals' for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.  Here's the web site...Pass On!

LEMONADE CHALLENGE

2010

As promised the Kennel Kids APS-FH this year will be putting on a fundraiser of their own.  It will  not conflict with our Wags event and will not require much from our community, except to raise a glass of lemonade for the manimals looking for forever homes.  Please check back RIGHT HERE for the details and how to sign up your own "team" of animal lovers for a lot of summer fun!

For adults, please feel free to call Tawny with any questions or to sign up to help as a volunteer.

Sam The Cat:

detective

Age Level: 9-12

This is the story of Sam, a one-man, err, cat, detective squad. He sleuths for the truth behind the too-many, too recent cat-burgleries. (It's just too ironic, isn't it?) Anyway, the story is about how Sam and his feline friends discover just who is behind those burglaries. The climax occurs when Sam attempts to capture the crook. And with a little help from his friends, and a little ingenuity, the conclusion is wonderful. This is a great story for kids, because it allows them to try to figure out who is at fault. It has a great story line, and it's a lot of fun.

On a not so sunny saturday in early January the island tail tutors were meeting and greeting readers at the SJI Library.  There were snacks provided by Melina and the library, as well as a few souvenir books for attendees.  It was fantastic to see all the enthusiastic readers just ready for tuesdays in January, February, and March ... the days the island tail tutors will be at the library listening to readers from 330pm to 430pm.

The program launch was a smashing success, with more than 20 people in attendance. When asked, the island tail tutors stated "We are ready, looking forward to tuesdays with all the new faces and stories."

If you have any questions please call Tawny at 360.298.1330 or the library and ask for Melina.
